FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT, ANGWAN
MISSION, JOS | Sat.29th June 2019
Mission is a community located at Tudun Wada, under Jos North LGA, Plateau State. It’s a community dominated by the Plateau
people but also hosts other ethnic groups and all kinds of
activities go on there. It is more like a slum and also very
well known for high-level drinking, substance abuse and vices
carried out especially by the youths. The churches in this
community don’t seem to have much impact among the people, as
some are taken by denominational differences, as communicated by
one of the pastors. Earlier this year, we visited this community
to carry out our monthly Anagkazo (Street) outreach, which we
hold at different locations, and in the course of this Outreach,
the Lord placed a burden in our hearts to do a major Gospel
Campaign in this community which gave birth to this event. Our
mission was simply to reach the lost and strengthen the
interceded for this community, we knew it was harvest time! The
team arrived Angwan Mission with a little difficulty because of
bad road and then in the course of set up it began to rain but
the Lord kept the rain from disturbing the event as it only
rained a little and for a short time in the Crusade location
while it rained heavily in other parts of Jos. We were so
thankful for this!
We had a
three-fold strategy. First, at 4pm we did a
House-to-House/Street Outreach ministering the Gospel to the
people in the community at their various locations, distributing
Gospel tracts and inviting them to the Gospel campaign.
Secondly, at 5:30pm we started the Gospel campaign at the heart
of the community. We used a cross-road as venue which was so
strategic because it was located at the centre of the community
where different roads meet which is also the centre of
activities, also where their well-known “Ogogoro” joint
(Drinking and substance abuse joint) as they call it, is
located. There was no sitting arrangement since it is a road,
people sat at the front of shops and wherever they could find
space to listen to the Gospel. To us, the cross-road was very
symbolic, it represented a place of decision for everyone!
People passing by stopped to hear and moved on, some stayed.
Different responses to the Gospel but ultimately the Holy Spirit
was at work in Angwan Mission sowing the seeds of Salvation
through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
started the event by having Bro Soja and Pastor Victor (A
missionary who ministers to drug addicts and disciples ex-drug
addicts) share their Before-And-After stories to enable the
people connect with the message. After this, we had an inspiring
song ministration from Habila, a music minister. Bro David and
Pst. Samson (Hausa Interpreter) preached on the Subject: “From
Darkness to Light!” Sharing from Jesus’ declarations in John
8:12 and John 12:46, also from the account of Apostle Paul’s
encounter and commission in Acts 26:17-18, they declared Jesus
as the Light and the only answer (solution) to the darkness
problem in the world. They then appealed to the people, inviting
them to make a switch from darkness to light! The people
received the Word of God and when the Call to Salvation was
made, 153 Souls made commitment to receive Jesus as Lord
and Saviour praying the prayer of salvation so passionately! The
younger ones were well represented – the future of evangelism in
the land! We were also happy to see the Ward head at the event
who was so delighted at what the Lord was doing in the land.
we did a film show when it was dark. The movie was about a
wayward man called “Ali” who had an encounter with Jesus and had
a dramatic all-round transformation. We believe that by the
Street outreach, Gospel campaign and Film show, we have done our
best to ensure that everyone in Angwan Mission heard the Gospel
and had the opportunity to make a decision for Jesus. We are
also working on a strong follow up approach with the pastors of
the community to conserve the harvest and reach many more souls.
After the film show, we ministered to the sick and afflicted and
saw many manifested healings. We also distributed booklets, Life
Digest bulletins and copies of “God Encounters” book to
believers in the land to strengthen and encourage the Churches.
We ended the event by declaring God’s blessings and peace over
the people in attendance, the Churches and the entire community.
There was great joy in the land. We left Angwan Mission
fulfilled having carried out the Master’s good pleasure. Glory
Special thanks to the team for
their sacrifices, commitment and heart of service in carrying
out the Master’s biddings! Also, thanks to everyone who prayed
along and supported financially and in many other ways. Your
reward is sure. And to Jesus be all the glory for all He has
done and continues to do. Amen!
